Service Description
Actors are often asked, “Have you ever done stand-up?” After this course, your answer won’t just be “yes”, you’ll have the experience, the material, and the club credits to back it up. This intensive is more than a class, it’s a full development process. Meeting twice a week for eight weeks ensures that students don’t just write a few jokes; they refine an entire set, sharpen their voice, and build real-world stage confidence. With consistent performance reps, tailored feedback, and the expert guidance of British comedian and filmmaker David Conolly, students will leave with a polished 6-minute set and a public performance slot at a major L.A. comedy club. Whether you're an actor looking to expand your casting range, a writer exploring comedic structure, or a performer ready to take the mic, this course delivers tangible results and a moment in the spotlight. Two classes per week. Eight weeks of growth. One unforgettable night on stage! Perfect for beginners or stand-ups who want to cultivate fresh material! No Class on Labor Day Please Note: Payment Plans are available by contacting info@futureartistsla.org About David: David Conolly grew up in England and intended to follow his father into the psychiatry profession. But he got involved in theater as a youth and eventually started landing increasingly large stage roles while still in his late teens, including appearing in a West End production. His studies then switched from psychiatry to theater and he started receiving strong critical notices for several performances. He also became involved with working behind the scenes, staging an alternative comedy revue in London clubs, as well as directing short films for clients such as the Red Cross and working on spec screenplays. Collaborating with his creative partner Hannah Davis, Conolly helmed his first feature film with the 2004 release "Mothers and Daughters." The film is a dark comedy focusing on a disparate group of Londoners from different social and economic backgrounds who intersect in various ways. Conolly and Davis next made another black comedy with the 2008 film, "The Understudy," about a depressed hardly-working actress who lands a gig as the understudy to a loud-mouthed movie star who is trying to earn some stage credibility. Lucky for the understudy, she gets a chance to shine in the production after the movie star is unable to perform. Conolly also performs in and directs the comedy show "Hindsight News."
